What makes a password strong

Attackers do not guess passwords by hand, they run billions of tries per second against leaked databases. Short or common passwords fall in seconds, while a random 16 character password with mixed characters would take longer than a lifetime to crack. The two rules that matter: make it long and make it unique for every account. Let a password manager remember them so you do not have to.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate a password on a website?

On this page, yes. The password is generated inside your browser using your device's secure random number generator and is never sent to any server. You can even load the page, go offline and then generate.

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters for normal accounts and 16 or more for email, banking and anything that resets other passwords. Length matters more than complexity.

Should I use the same password everywhere?

No. If one site leaks, every account with that password is exposed. Use a unique password per account and store them in a password manager.
