Add GST or remove GST, both in one tool
Shopkeepers and freelancers usually need to add GST to a base price while making an invoice. Buyers and accountants often need the reverse: given a final bill, how much of it was tax? This calculator handles both. Switch the mode, enter the amount, choose the slab and the answer updates immediately, including the CGST and SGST split you need for invoices within your state.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + GST rate / 100). For example, Rs 1,180 inclusive of 18 percent GST has a base price of 1180 / 1.18 = Rs 1,000, so the GST portion is Rs 180.
What are CGST and SGST?
For sales within a state, GST is split equally between the central government (CGST) and the state government (SGST). An 18 percent GST bill shows 9 percent CGST and 9 percent SGST. Interstate sales use IGST at the full rate instead.
What are the main GST rates in India?
The common slabs are 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent. Essentials are often 5 percent, most services and electronics fall under 18 percent, and luxury items attract 28 percent. Rates change with GST Council decisions, so always confirm the current rate for your product or service.
Is this calculator useful for freelancers?
Yes. Freelancers registered under GST typically charge 18 percent on services. Use the add GST mode to prepare invoices and the remove GST mode to check the base value of inclusive quotes.
